In her new home

Well, the transfer went well. Brought Patti's bro Dan and his daughter Alissa along, also a neighbor friend Sean. Dan was very helpful and supportive, Alyssa was very sweet once she decided she actually wanted to come along, and Sean was great company for the boys.

We managed to pull everything from the dock, motor out near the start of an ebb, raise sails and bring her to and under the Bay Bridge, moving 7-8kn over the ground (with a following tide). Bridge was a little tight (Dan kept checking whether we were ready to start the engine), but with tall sails and inertia it was no problem getting through the inevitable wind holes under the bridge. Nice to see construction progressing, too.

We had a nice blast behind Treasure Island, and I was expecting spray on the other side, but - nothing! At last, a boat with freeboard! Even the dodger stayed dry!

Then a strange happening - both sonar/fishfinder and regular depth sounder showed 5 feet across the backside of the Olympic Circle, but we didn't hit anything despite the boat drawing 6 feet plus. And of course they wouldn't have a racecourse with only 5 feet depth at low tide. So either the instruments are calibrated strangely or are not working (but are remarkably consistent). We'll have to check the depth with a weight at the slip...

Patti, Dan and I took turns steering (and playing with the autohelm) when not entertaining Alyssa - the boyz mostly hung out on the windward rail, Tino doing his darnedest to refrain from swinging on the shrouds (with little success). Into RYC harbor, discovered the difficulty of side-docking with wind off the starboard side (when prop walks to port in reverse) but managed to pull her around the corner to an upwind position, so it almost looked like we meant to do that all along!

Had a nice dinner at the club, then scooted across the fairway 150 feet to her new dock. She's now comfortably bedded down, the dock now has real live cleats - now we just have to find time to take her out again.
